TICI VIRACOCHA, THE GOD OF SUN

The Indians of Bolivia tell the following legend which goes up at the period before the Incas’ domination. The sun stopped shining during a very long time. After long long requests towards the gods, finally the sun emerged again in all its splendour, from an island into the big lake of Titicaca. Then a white man of high size appeared, which had supernatural gifts and made spout out the water of the rocks. The Indians venerated in him the "Father of the Sun". He was used to talk with them with softness and kindness, teaching them to be charitable and to avoid to be bad. Then the man went towards the north, performing miracles everywhere on his passage. Suddenly, he disappeared, and nobody saw him again anymore. The Indians named him Tici Viracocha and adored him as the God-Creator who had taken an human form. Many myths and legends surround Viracocha, the mysterior White Deliverer of the Andes. One says of him that he was of an extraordinary wisdom and that he had always with him a stick and a book.

All the legends about this mysterior Whiter Deliverer point out the life of Jesus. Viracocha would have traversed the country by delivering people of their evils by laying on his hands and making miracles. Some scientists suppose that his wood stick was not other than a hazel stick, thanks to which he would have chosen the location of the center of Tiahuanaco and determined the dimensions and the configuration of other sites founded by him, as the famous sanctuaries of Cuzco.

Other scientists think that Viracocha was a Viking who came by Mexico during the 10th century and brought the western civilization in the high plates of the Andes. Other scientists even advance that he could be an extraterrestrial being. In short, all the scientists gave their opinion but nobody really has discovered who was this marvellous and strange man who appeared on the plate of the Andes for getting better the life of the inhabitants.

Was he a god ? a simple man ? an extraterrestrial ? since now, nobody knows.
