THE MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN IS A MOSQUITO

Feb, 16 - 2016 - Many tropical countries are plagued by the disease of Dengue Fever and now a new virus more dangerous called Zika is spreading worldwide damaging the health of pregnant mothers and babies.

On 18 April 2014, the French newspaper "Le Monde" announced on the web that on April 10, the National Biosafety Technical Commission (CTNBio) authorized the spreading into the environment of the mosquito codenamed OX513A mosquito, first GMO "animal" before the famous American transgenic salmon nicknamed "Frankenfish".

The proximity of the 2016 Olympic Games and the huge financial stakes for Brazil decided the Brazilian government to authorize the British company Oxitec and its production plant of mutant mosquitoes, the Cy Moscamed in Juazeiro, to release the OX513A in some areas of the country to contain the Dengue Fever disease.

In principle, male OX513A mosquitoes also nicknamed Aedes Aegypti had to prevent wild female mosquitoes to spread the dengue disease by denying them to have viable eggs and therefore drastically reduce these wild insects. In conclusion, three million mutant mosquitoes were spread in the Cayman Islands in 2009, 6000 mosquitoes in Malaysia in 2010 and 17 million in Brazil in 2011 and 2012 ... Of course, each mutant mosquitoes is not free and allows Oxitec to obtain comfortable royalties.

But again, the story of Dr. Frankenstein and his laboratory monster repeated ...

According to the British NGO GeneWatch, the mosquitoes of Oxitec are not as sterile as expected. Indeed, to survive they need an antibiotic called tetracycline. Now it appears that the famous antibiotic is widely present in the wastewater and the meat from industrial livestock ... so the mutant monsters that were expected to help the humans are reproducing rapidly. This was so serious that the the Brazilian government was obliged to launch a wide sanitary campaign of mosquito eradication.

But that’s not all. The Aedes Aegypti mosquito is now suspected of transmitting the famous Zika virus... and we know that this virus already present in Africa, nowadays is spreading dramatically in all America.

A question arises: is it Zika a mutant virus due to the genetic changes on the mosquito OX513A? We know already the answer : "Populations never will have the response, never will know the truth!"
