IS RESURRECTION A REALITY?

June 22nd, 2012 - We already wrote about a "kind of life after death" (see our previous report Is Death the end? ). But from now on eternal life may be our future. Indeed, French scientists have discovered that stem cells can survive death and get healthy again (report from "Nature Communications").

The muscle stem cells or bone marrow at the origin of blood cells can survive in a hard environment more than ten days after the death of an human body. They simply fall asleep and then may become functional again. Previous work had identified such cells 32 hours after death in the brain of a fetus.But now, the experiment has been conducted on 4 grams of muscle from a died lady of 95 years, and 17 days after his death, millions of muscle stem cells have been obtained.

To survive the cells seem to need enough oxygen to achieve this "sleep" allowing them to survive and resist. The cells thus pass to the state of sleep by reducing their metabolism. More generally, this sleep is a way for these adult cells to try to overcome hostile situations, such as a muscle injury, then their cell cycle goes on repairing the damaged tissue or organ. During a muscle injury, the oxygen supply is disrupted and it was found that laboratory muscle stem cells deprived of oxygen at 4 ° C survived better than those who remained exposed to ambient oxygen.

The discovery provides new ways and especially conservation stem cells (in a refrigerator and a gas mixture without oxygen) for therapeutic use.

But the door is open to all fantastic speculations as extraordinary as each other as (why not?) the resurrection of the dead in the future. Who says the monster franskestein is not already a reality in a laboratory in some part of the world?
