RIO, CHRISTO REDENTO AND OMEN

Jan. 24th, 2014 - Last week, the main tourist attraction of Brazil, the statue of Christ which overlooks Rio de Janeiro outstretching arms over the bay was hit by lightning during a violent storm on Thursday night. As a result, it lost part of the thumb of the right hand.

The flash always symbolizing divine wrath, touching the statue became a symbol of the entire city of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, we can predict that a balance and a protection have been broken.

Hands in pre-Columbian civilizations, are used to symbolize both creation and destruction.

In the West, from the remotest antiquity, traditions assign values to hands wich also are complementary and inseparable: Right hand represents GOOD and Left hand, EVIL.

There is a warning: in striking slightly the right hand, there is expression of divine anger which shows that GOOD is partly gone for Brazil and its capital.

If one takes the economic perspective, the Brazilian economy is going down (there are high levels of interest rates, inflationary pressures, stagnant commodity prices growth ...) and this situation is expected to continue and if not, to increase .

If one takes the religious point of view, God by striking the image of his redeeming son, warns Brazilians that they have to return to Christian and Human fundamental that seem having gone slowly away with the expansion of the Brazilian society’s and its rapid access to consumption.
