DOES HAPPINESS EXIST ?

Dec. 28th, 2023 - Since we no longer believe in God, time is running out. It is therefore a question of living intensely. Thanks to the consumerism that surrounds us, the excitement, the restlessness, the exaltation are permanent... at least they were until Covid arrived. Many governments around the world have “locked down” their populations. Their motivation was to protect us. And so, the Western world paused. The wait was painful for some and a wake-up call for others. Many reflected and questioned their existence: meditation on life, time, death, boredom and nature of happiness.

The uncertainty of life and the suspended time made us feel the indescribable suffering of having lived for nothing since everything could stop. Before, the dictates of time ordered us to work, entertain and forget ourselves in consumption and thus turn away of our mortality. We never had time to think about our end of life. Without being aware of it, boredom revealed to us a powerful desire for happiness. But what is happiness in the end?

There is an infinity of happiness whether you are rich or poor, alone or accompanied, sick or in good health. We all aspire to our own happiness. The poor man dreams of being rich, the lonely man/woman seeks his/her lover, the sick man dreams about health. We all dream of different states of happiness. But is there recipes for happiness ?

Permanent happiness does not exist, there are only passing states or periods of happiness. And after they are passed, our imagination can be our worst enemy. Because we live by imagining the world and the people around us and of cause ourselves, which causes regrets, frustrations, anger or depression.

We must keep in mind that there are only moments of happiness that allow us to endure a life made up of difficulties or mediocrities for the most fortunate and of misfortune for others.
