MARQUIS DE SADE AND SADISM

Nov. 19, 2014 - Under the title "Sade, attacking the Sun", the Musée d’Orsay in Paris shows from 14 October 2014 until 25 January 2015 an exhibition on Sade and the sadism. Terrificator had to be there. And so, here is an exclusive report, as if you were, my little monsters .
The work and philosophy of Donatien Alphonse François de Sade (1740 -1814) are accompanied by film clips, thoughts of authors (Baudelaire, Nietzche...), paintings (Picasso, Goya ...), sculptures (Rodin)... real or imagined representations of dissected bodies (anatomic studies, human parts mounted on irons), postcards of decapitated bodies in colonial times, tables and sculptures of tortured bodies... The visit of the exhibition takes place in a cozy, dimly lit maze and the visitor goes forward as if walking through the winding maze of the Marquis de Sade’s mind for discovering the entire final darkness not of a man, but of all men. In fact, it begins with libertinism, follows with sadomasochism, reaches to a climax of perversion for ending in the entire horror of humanity ...
"Human, too human, inhuman"
(Sade’s exhibition)
By starting that "Cruelty is simply the energy in man that civilization has not yet corrupted", Sade observed what the history of out has always illustrated. This violence even became an enduring subject of fascination. Sade was simply the first person to point out that any excuse to represent and simultaneously justify it was valid.
This is tantamount to saying that a crime is a crime and therefore challenges the spiritual moral and politic foundations of the social structure, as well as its aesthetic order, which contain and disguise the naked violence at work in the behaviours whose virtues we extoll.
Sade will never be forgiven for this.
Furthermore, by revealing the connection between murder and bravura, martyrology and cannibalism, animality and embrace, Sade emphased the pleasure derived from them and their sexual origins. "Ferocity is always the means or complement of lust".
"There is no atrocity that has not been deified, no virtue that has not been stigmatised. Because of these purely geographical differences, we pay little heed to man’s extrem or comtempt." (Sade, "Philosophie dans le boudoir", 1795)
The Marquis de Sade will remain for ever the great philosopher of nihilism, visionary precursor of the atrocities carried by the French Revolution of the late 18th century to the one of the 19th century with the Commune, together with the atrocities and barbarism of the great wars of the 20th century and their politic sanctification.
At terrificator’s, we know daily that reality is worse than your worst nightmare.
With that, I wish you a good night, my dear little monsters.
